Records – good and bad – broken by jobs report that shows huge battles ahead – Sydney Morning Herald

Scott Morrison has characterised the jobs market as an ongoing war, with Australia “fighting back”. The figures suggest these are only the early skirmishes of that war.

And the 210,000 jobs created in June were all part-time. Full-time jobs fell by another 38,000, with a cumulative 387,500 high-paying positions gone since February.
Almost 370,000 people have left the labour force since February. They don’t have a job and aren’t looking for one (and so aren’t officially jobless). Add this group to the 992,000 without a job and the unemployment rate is clearly above 10 per cent.
There are 230,000 people who are technically described as employed but did not work…
