Hand over heart: why Essendon’s succession plan might just work – The Age
Footy’s Kirribilli agreements have sometimes been messy, but Essendon senior coach John Worsfold deserves credit for his selflessness as he prepares to hand over the improving Bombers to Ben Rutten.
Worsfold helped the Bombers through their darkest hour in 2016, when he coached a team of top-ups and guys who wouldnt normally get an opportunity after basically the entire list was wiped out by suspension.
He was the perfect calm head for those difficult moments. Between that campaign and the current one, Worsfold has certainly had his critics, whether about his game plan or his deadpan demeanour. Fans have often called for more emotion.
