Researchers hope new COVID vaccine will cover all known strains

Queensland researchers are hopeful a vaccine they are developing could provide coverage for all the strains of COVID-19.

Scientists from the Institute for Glycomics at Griffith University, along with colleagues from Canada and China, have been working to develop a vaccine that targets specific parts of the virus’s spike protein.

That protein — the small spikes seen in pictures of a coronavirus molecule that give it the “crown” that inspired the coronavirus name — has been the focus for researchers trying to create a vaccine against the virus.
