Cairns man charged with assault for allegedly attacking Japanese woman in CBD

A Cairns man has been charged with attacking a Japanese tourist in the city’s CBD.

The 21-year-old man allegedly grabbed the woman, 27, by her face and neck from behind about 9.30pm on Saturday.

He then dragged her into a garden bed, police say.

A security guard came across the incident.

He called out to the alleged attacker, who ran from the scene.
