Public housing preferable to nursing homes – Riverine Herald
Beryl Hawkins says the coronavirus outbreak has given the community a glimpse of what it’s like to be elderly in Australia.The 91-year-old is terrified of ending up in a nursing home.She has been living in a northern Sydney public housing unit for the past 14 years but fears her health deteriorating and taking away her independence.
“I just want to stay in my own home; I don’t want to go anywhere else really,” she told the aged care royal commission on Thursday.
