The provenance of the emerald stones used to decorate the Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara are a little sketchy.
The stones are known as the Cambridge emeralds due to them being owned by the original Duchess of Cambridge, Augusta of Hesse-Kassel, Queen Mary’s grandmother. The Lover’s Knot tiara worn by Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, is a recreation of the original owned by Augusta, hence the ‘Cambridge’ part of its name.
