Bulimba Barracks must be lifted above flood level, Shayher Group report says

The developers of the Bulimba Barracks site in Brisbane’s east have asked the city council to vary an existing masterplan to reflect a need to raise the entire site above flood level.
Key points:
- Defence sold Bulimba Barracks to Shayher Group last year for $63 million
- The masterplanned site will have 850 homes, greenspace and a community centre
- Development plans show the site needs to be lifted above flood level
Documents submitted to the council this week note the 20-hectare site on the banks of the Brisbane River must be almost entirely filled with earth to ensure a planned 855-home master-planned community is safe from flooding.
The Department of Defence finalised the sale of the Apollo Road site to Shayher Group for $63 million last year.
