Cyclone update BOM: Cairns to be impacted by system as power outages, school closures hit north Queensland
North Queenslanders have been told to brace themselves for strong winds, heavy rain and abnormally high tides as a tropical low system is expected to intensify into a cyclone on Tuesday.
The warning is in place for residents between Cape Flattery to Lucinda in the state’s north.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns wind gusts could reach up to 120kph as the system moves.
