French doctors say they have discovered the first case of coronavirus passed down from a mother to her unborn baby through the placenta.
The case study, published in Nature Communications, reports that the newborn boy developed inflammation in the brain within days of being born, a condition brought on after the virus crossed the placenta and created an infection in the last weeks of the womans pregnancy.

The boys 23-year-old mother was admitted to hospital on March 24.
