In the case of a 23-year-old woman, the virus crossed the placenta and created an infection in the last weeks of pregnancy.
French doctors say they have discovered the first case of coronavirus passed down from a mother to her unborn baby through the placenta.
The case study, published in Nature Communications, reports that the newborn boy developed inflammation in the brain within days of being born, a condition brought on after the virus crossed the placenta and created an infection in the last weeks of the womans pregnancy.

The boys 23-year-old mother was admitted to hospital on March 24.
