Auckland locked down by police as New Zealand enters renewed COVID restrictions

New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, has entered a week-long lockdown after a new local case of coronavirus of unknown origin was detected.

Police said they had re-established road checkpoints in and out of the Auckland region.

“Our staff at the checkpoints, on the outskirts of Auckland, are stopping vehicles and questioning drivers, ensuring there is no non-essential movement through the region,” police said in a statement.
