Meanwhile, over in the US, President Joe Biden has touted his administration’s progress in the fight against COVID-19 as the country remains on track to reach the goal of 100 million vaccinations in 100 days.

Speaking during a visit to a major vaccination center in Texas, Mr Biden encouraged Americans to get the jab.

Earlier in the week, the US passed the 50 million vaccination mark, and Mr Biden said after a difficult year there was real hope that the US was now on the right track.
