‘I fell asleep’: Zerafa says Tszyu is dull and trades on his name – Sydney Morning Herald
Middleweight star Michael Zerafa has unloaded on Tim Tszyu, saying the Sydney star can’t entertain and has taken shortcuts to his August fight with Jeff Horn.

“I fell asleep. He cant string a sentence together. It sounds like hes talking underwater. Hes the most boring fighter Ive ever seen,” Zerafa said. “Im hoping hes putting it on (for the media) and hes not like that outside of boxing.
“Im not going to knock his ability. Hes up and coming. But if you took his last name away, he wouldnt have this fight. Hes growing each fight, hes looking good but I think Horn beats him with his awkwardness and toughness.

“Im looking forward to it but the real fight is with me, either the finale of trilogy with Horn or a blockbuster with Tszyu.”
Zerafa and Horn exchanged plenty of words across their two fights but Zerafa has a good deal of respect for the former WBA welterweight champion, saying he at least took care of the best domestic opposition before getting his famous and successful shot against Manny Pacquiao.
He doesn’t believe Tszyu has earned that sort of homegrown respect and said he backed out of a fight that was scheduled as part of a four-fight plan by Tszyu’s management.
“Tszyu had a four-fight plan that I was in he stuck to three of those fights and ducked me. He calls himself a fighter but he ducked me,” Zerafa said.
He cant string a sentence together. It sounds like hes talking underwater. Hes the most boring fighter Ive ever seen.
Michael Zerafa on Tim Tszyu
“Id be all over him like a rash. Hes a one-dimensional fighter. Take nothing away from him, he will be something good. But not now, not while Im around in these divisions, he wont be able to beat me.
“You have to clean up your back yard first, like I did, like Horn did. You take away Tszyus last name, youd ask Tim who? Whos he beaten?
“He fought Joel Camilleri who is tough and Dwight Ritchie, rest his soul. Who else? He fought Wade Ryan, who is a tough journeyman, who I believe beat him. He put him down on the canvas in the first round and I think Tszyu lost that fight.”
Horn has been left stunned after being installed as an outsider for the fight and Zerafa tends to agree, saying Horn’s toughness and awkward ring craft would be a huge ask for Tszyu to combat given his limited experience.
And with a growing hype machine behind him desperate for success, Zerafa believes the blue-blooded Tszyu has bitten off too much, too soon, and skipped valuable local opponents that would have better prepared him for a step up in class.
“I dont understand why Horn is the underdog. Hes beaten Pacquiao, been in with (Terence) Crawford, myself and hes the outsider. You take away Tszyus last name and this fight wouldnt even be happening.
“Everyone compares him to his dad. His dad is an absolute legend. But hes not his old man. Hes got big shoes to fill hell get caught out sooner rather than later.”
