Sorry, Tassie: Suns chief says AFL expansion ‘completely unrealistic’ for another decade
Gold Coast chairman Tony Cochrane believes the AFL expanding to 20 teams in the near future is completely unrealistic.
Tasmania has been pushing hard for a clear pathway towards becoming the 19th team, and a 20th team is likely to follow given it would create a 10th game each weekend, boosting the price of the TV rights deal.
The AFL told the Apple Isle last week it needs another year to establish the feasibility of a team down south, because of the impact on COVID-19 on the leagues finances.
