85 people are currently receiving treatment in the states hospitals, 26 are in intensive care and 21 of those are on ventilators, with that number expect to soar as more people become infected.
We were always planning for spikes and the spikes are being managed as we go on, Dr Bartone explained.

However, he did share concerns about the strain the pandemic is putting on medics in the state, with an increasing number of frontline workers forced into isolation after becoming infected with COVID-19.
What we are finding is that hospital doctors and nurses are under the pump in terms of being able to man rosters, he explained.
This is because of infections or having to isolate because of contact with people who become infected.
Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton warned at Tuesdays daily briefing that the number of hospitalisations is likely to rise sharply over the next two weeks.
Thats a really significant number of people with coronavirus and it does mean that in the next fortnight were going to see a number of these people who will require hospital, he said.
Theres often 10 to 20 per cent of all coronavirus infections who require hospitalisation, so thats a couple of hundred individuals at least who will require hospitalisation in the next couple of weeks.
Victoria recorded another 270 new cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of infections to 4224 with 1803 of those active cases.
