A KNEE setback for Nic Newman could rule the defender out for the beginning of the season, but Tom De Koning is ahead of schedule following his back injury.
After a largely faultless pre-season in his return from a ruptured patella tendon, Carlton will take a cautious approach with Newman with the season just over three weeks away.
