Last years Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin has undergone emergency surgery to remove her appendix, a final hammer blow during a horrid month in Melbourne.
The world No.4s title defence ended in tears with a shock second-round defeat and the American then needed to digest a shock WTA loss to an unranked Australian teenager.
Kenin will now spend some time on the sidelines recovering from the operation in Melbourne on Monday.
