Southern hairy-nosed wombats reclaim the Nullarbor
The southern hairy-nosed wombat might just have the perfect personality for life on the Nullarbor.

- They are now bouncing back, with healthy populations found as far west as Caiguna

Known for being “extremely funny” and “tough as nails” in equal measure, the once struggling species is now thriving in the vast, arid landscape.
Michael Swinbourne, a wombat expert from the University of Adelaide, hoped the next decade would see it continue a westward march into territory lost decades ago.
