Former NSW Premier Barrie Unsworth leads team buying Sydney home once owned by Gough Whitlam

A group led by former NSW Labor Premier Barrie Unsworth has sealed a deal to buy Gough Whitlam’s former house before it was due to go to auction this weekend.

- Gough and Margaret Whitlam owned the Cabramatta house from 1956 until 1978
- Four men, including the Whitlam’s son Nick, have bought the home ahead of Saturday’s auction
- Nick visited the four-bedroom home for the first time in 50 years, describing it as “unchanged”
Mr Unsworth signed the cheque for $1,150,000, well in excess of the original price guide of $720,000 to $750,000.
“We are happy with the price,” he said.
“The main thing is we have acquired it for prosperity.”
