‘Raptor’ expanded to tackle ‘urban terrorists’
A police strikeforce, known for busting bikie gangs, will be bolstered to more than 100 officers in an effort to tackle an escalating war between crime families in Sydney’s south-west.
Strikeforce Raptor will move to a standalone squad, with 30 new police positions to be created by July, boosting the total staff to 115.
It follows a spate of murders and public place shootings and comes just days after a nurse at Auburn Hospital was injured in a drive-by shooting targeting a nearby townhouse.
Police Minister David Elliott said the new Raptor Squad would target all criminal groups, including bikie gangs, crime families and other gangs.
