Alleged attacker to stay behind bars as officer makes full recovery
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the northern police region’s Assistant Commissioner, Brett Schafferius, said he was “extremely optimistic” the officer would make a full recovery.

“That is the best news I’ve heard in a very long time,” he said. “This is an absolute abhorrent act.”
He added that while limited in what he could say as the matter was now before the court, detectives were investigating a “number of other matters that may be linked to this offender”, who was already before the court on unrelated matters.
The officer was by himself when he was allegedly attacked, but he had a partner in constant contact via radio and the alleged offence was captured on the stabbed officer’s body-worn camera.
