Man charged with stabbing Queensland cop in stomach, chest, neck

Police said he remained in Cairns Hospital on Wednesday, but his condition was now classified as stable.
The alleged attacker was found by police nearby soon after the stabbing.
He was arrested, taken to hospital for further assessment and charged overnight with several offences.
Police have charged a 22-year-old man with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of tainted property.
He is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
“Queensland Police has extended its full support and sympathy to the injured officer, his family and colleagues and will continue to monitor his recovery in hospital,” police said in a statement.
