Ross River virus infections reach record levels in NSW
Three months ago Graeme Stuart was playing golf, paddling a dragon boat and loving life as a grey nomad.

- Almost 2,000 people contracted Ross River virus in NSW last year
- Statewide case numbers are at a 30-year high
- There is no cure for the virus, which is transmitted through mosquito bites
Now, even simple tasks are sometimes beyond him.
“Right now I’d struggle to get in or out of a boat, let alone hold a paddle,” he said.
“It troubles me if I have to open a door that’s got a circular doorknob because I can’t get a grip on the thing.”
On Christmas Eve, the 68-year-old from Ocean Shores on the New South Wales far north coast was diagnosed with Ross River virus.
