Gold Coast drowning: Three people die in two days
A third person has drowned in the Gold Coast surf in the space of two days as several beaches close on the strip due to dangerous conditions.
The swimmer was pulled unresponsive from the water at 7:40am on Saturday at Mermaid Beach, south of Broadbeach.
It comes after a man and woman drowned following a late-night swim on Friday in big surf.
The pair were initially seen going into the ocean at Old Burleigh Rd, Broadbeach, about 9.20pm on Thursday.
