Other users defended the hoard and gave the residents the benefit of the doubt, saying the stockpile could be to service their business or a healthy buffer of supply.
People who simply maintain a healthy stockpile arent the problem, its the people that go out of their way to drastically increase their purchases that are the problem, the user said.
The image comes after a surge in panic buying, driven by fears of a second wave of coronavirus cases.
The consumer behaviour has resulted in Coles and Woolworths reintroducing purchase limits at supermarkets impacted by Melbournes lockdown.
Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire returned to stage three stay at home restrictions for six weeks at 11.59pm last Wednesday in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 community transmission in the state.
Toilet paper at Woolworths remains capped at two packs per customer nationally.
While the sale of products such as pasta, rice, flour, sugar, milk, and liquid soap are capped at two per customer at Coles, the most prized good – toilet paper – is capped at just one packet.
