Te Akau Racing confirms the passing of New Zealand cult horse and Group 1 star
New Zealand cult horse and Group 1 star Te Akau Shark is dead.
Te Akau Racing confirmed the sad news in a statement on Thursday morning, with the gelding’s death linked to the degenerative eye condition that forced his retirement from racing last year.
It is understood Te Akau Shark was humanely euthanised after becoming totally blind in both eyes.
“It is with immense pain and sadness that we announce that our beloved Te Akau Shark has lost his brave health battle,” the statement said.
