New Zealands seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 4.9 per cent in the December 2020 quarter, from 5.3 percent in the September 2020 quarter, according to Stats NZ.
The reading beat economist forecasts for a jobless rate of 5.6 per cent in the quarter.
Despite the December quarters drop, unemployment is still higher than it has been in a few years. This time last year, the unemployment rate was at 4.1 percent, said Becky Collett at Stats NZ.
