All those days playing Tetris may finally, quite literally, pay off. The Tetris mobile app will be adding new updates and modes and among them is a new nightly competition called Tetris Primetime.
The format is similar to that of a live game show and it will air nightly every 7:30 PM. Players will get their chance to compete and take home a share of the $5,000 prize. In total, Tetris Primetime will be awarding more than $1 million in annual cash prizes. The competition will be free to enter and players will have to play through timed rounds and reach the designated score goal to proceed to the next round. Players must survive all rounds to make it to the final leaderboard.
At launch, only a handful of countries will be able to participate. These include Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, Russia, Chile, the US, Canada, UK, and Germany. It will be hosted by New Zealand actor Millen Baird and will come complete with news, previews, and highlights of best plays in the app.
Apart from Tetris Primetime, a new battle royale type of gameplay is introduced, aptly named, Tetris Royale. Its quite similar to Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch where 100 players battle against each other until only one remains. There will also be a new mode called Tetris Together which acts as a small scale private multiplayer mode that offers real-time voice chat.
Tetris is available on both iOS and Android.
