Coronavirus concern for local footy club – Bay 93.9

The Inverleigh Football Netball Club has been hit by a potential case of COVID-19.
A post on the Inverleigh Football Netball Club’s Facebook page confirms the club was told on Thursday night that a family member of one of their Under 13 players had returned a positive test for COVID-19.
“All appropriate steps in line with the COVID protocols have been followed and are currently taking place to ensure the safety of all our members and extended families. The families of the players who attended Under 13 training on Wednesday night have been notified directly by the club. The training attendance sheet has been shared with AFL Barwon who will work with DHS if/where necessary,” they said.
“For now, all other junior teams are OK to proceed as per COVID normal, and we request that the privacy of those involved please be respected.”
In a statement AFL Barwon said the club following procedures, including notifying their COVID Safety Officer, tracking training attendance and upholding hygiene practices.
“Inverleigh FNC have acted promptly and are following the correct process outlined by AFL Victoria in the event a player/s have come into contact with a person who is positive with COVID-19,” they said.
All potential close contacts have been told to undertake a COVID-19 test and follow all health protocols outlined by the Department of Health, with the risk of transmission considered low.
AFL Barwon said it will continue to work closely with Inverleigh FNC, AFL Victoria and State Health bodies to ensure the situation is properly managed.
“All relevant people inside the club are aware of the situation, and the Department of Health have been notified as per the AFL Victoria process and will assist with the next steps.”
