WA Premier Mark McGowan defended the decision to allow the man to leave quarantine, telling reporters it was extraordinary circumstances and Melbourne had more than 12 days in a row of no local transmission of COVID-19.
He noted similar exceptions were made when the roof of Perths Curtin University collapsed in October, and specialised assessors needed to come from interstate.
