Perth-born Liam Hendriks had 70 million new reasons to smile last week.
The Aussie relief pitcher, who was named in the 2020 All-MLB First Team, signed a $US54 million ($A70 million), three-year deal the biggest aggregate annual contract offered to a reliever in Major League Baseball history.
But when he fronted the US media for his first official interview to announce his move from the Oakland Athletics to the Chicago White Sox, he requested to first make a statement before any questions were asked.
