PM says hotel quarantine shift must have ‘net benefit’ for regions
However the Prime Minister said he had spoken to people in Gladstone about the proposal, including mayor Matt Burnett, and suggested not everyone was enthusiastic about it.
“For something like that to be even considered, I’d think the Premier would have to get the local Labor mayor on board for a start. And I don’t think that’s happening at this point,” Mr Morrison said.
Cr Burnett earlier this week wrote to the Prime Minister and the Premier to seek clarification about the proposal.
Mr Morrison said the government had approved regional quarantine in the Northern Territory, but said putting it in place in other states would require premiers to make sure there would be benefits for the regions where such facilities would be…
