Taiwanese cafe franchise 85 Degrees has been accused of underpaying eight overseas students $429,000 in less than a year through a fake ‘internship’ arrangement….
The FWO alleges the employees, who spoke little English, were underpaid between $50,213 and $58,248 each from 2016 to 2017 and accused 85 Degrees of also failing to keep records or issue pay slips.
The students allegedly worked evenings, weekdays, weekends and public holidays but were only paid a “salary” of about $950 a month and a $740 “food allowance”.
