Acting Homeland Security boss resigns from Donald Trump’s administration
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf is stepping down from his post, just days after criticising President Donald Trump over the riot at the US Capitol.
In a message to staff, Mr Wolf said he would step down at 11:59pm on Monday (local time), even though he had earlier said he planned to remain in his job.
A longtime Homeland Security official, Mr Wolf was appointed as the acting head of the department in November 2019.
He was the fifth person to take on the job during the Trump administration.
At the time, when a reporter asked Mr Trump directly whether Mr Wolf was to be the next DHS secretary, the President responded: “He’s acting, and we’ll see what happens.”
