Firie recalls the terrifying moment he almost photographed a tragedy

The young couple was the last to make it across. As water raged at their feet, they crossed Grantham’s rail bridge as the devastating flood rushed through Lockyer Valley town.

The couple’s bid to reach safety was photographed by Grantham rural fire brigade officer Geoff Purton at 4.13pm on January 10, 2011.
