Greater Brisbane to go into three-day lockdown to stop UK variant spread

“These are tough, strong measures – like I said, this is incredibly infectious,” the Premier said, speaking ahead of a National Cabinet meeting convened to assess the risks of the UK variant.
Dr Young said there were now 79 close contacts of the woman identified, and the “long weekend” lockdown would help trace any further contacts and ideally stop any spread of the virus in the community.

“We know because people have been very mobile recently, it’s actually hard to find people, so I need people to be at home so we can contact trace them, so we can get them to go into quarantine at their home for 14 days, so we can test them and quarantine them again,” Dr Young said.
