The other day came news that “Halloween Kills” had been delayed a full year – from this October to next October. The bad news was soothed with the release of a very early and very short teaser trailer.
The trailer confirmed that the film starts off directly after the events of the last movie with the Strode family on the back of a truck escaping as Laurie’s house, with Michael Myers trapped in the basement, is burning.
Now the film’s co-writer Danny McBride has spoken to Empire Online (via CBM) a bit more about the storyline for the film which serves as a middle chapter of the ‘modern trilogy’ of these movies:
“It takes place the same night, picking up where the last movie ended. Events in the film bring together a lot of characters who were in the 1978 film who we didn’t see last time. They gather to try, once and for all, to take down Michael, to stop this madman.”
The film’s director and co-writer David Gordon Green also spoke about the new film’s themes and how Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance in the previous film led them to go much further this time:
“This first one was more about Laurie’s life of isolation after Michael and her attempts at revenge. It was personal. This is more about the unravelling of a community into chaos. It’s about how fear spreads virally.
We learned that Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie is capable of anything! We didn’t know what to expect working with her. The fact she could do her own stunts, kick everybody’s ass and be a joy to work with that definitely meant re-evaluating what we wanted to do with the next chapter of the story. We were excited to write without limitations about what Laurie can do.”
“Halloween Kills” will be completed in coming weeks but those involved have opted to hold the release until October next year when cinemas will be back in full swing. “Halloween Ends,” the final film in the series, aims to begin production sometime next year.
