Many competent Sheffield Shield opening bats are given short shrift for BBL contracts because they have the discipline to leave the ball alone, wear down the shine, seam and the bowlers. Their task is to face as many balls as possible. Burns was good at that. At the moment, he isn’t, but he may well be back on track down the road.
