Sharing food and recipes has the power to bring people together

If you have ever travelled overseas with an emergency jar of Vegemite stashed in your luggage (remember those pre-COVID days?) then you know the power of food to dial down homesickness, revive good memories or bring a comforting rhythm to life.

In fact “food memory” is a well-known phenomenon and the evocative nature of our different cuisines and favourite family recipes make familiar dishes an excellent tool to build bonds between generations, help refugees settle into new countries, cement friendships or reconnect with abandoned parts of ourselves.
