Search underway for man missing after midnight swim in Mary River near Gympie
Emergency crews are searching for a man in his 20s who was reported missing in the Mary River at Kybong near Gympie.
Queensland Police said the man was trying to swim across the river at Traveston Crossing Road, just after midnight, when he went underwater and did not resurface.
Wide Bay police Superintendent Michael Sawrey said the search was launched after police were alerted by nearby campers.
“A male person has entered the water at Kybong and tried to cross the Mary River,” he said.
“Unfortunately [he] hasn’t resurfaced and hasn’t been located so a search and rescue is underway.
“QFES have assisted with swift water boats but unfortunately at this stage we haven’t located the male person.”
