On Footy Classified this week, the Collingwood president responded to news ANZ Stadium had emerged as the frontrunner for this years AFL decider, with the prospect of crowds in Victoria looking slimmer by the day.
After McGuire said the move could pose a threat to the NRLs long-held dominance in the Sydney market, VLandys chimed back with his tongue firmly in cheek.

Naturally, theyd want to bring it (AFL Grand Final) to the best city in the world. I dont begrudge them on that, he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
And they may want to spend some time at the Opera House and Sydney Harbour rather than some of their landmarks. I welcome it. Its the best city in the world, we should have a few second-rate events. Thats no problem.
Vlandys said that, while McGuire had put a couple of little jabs in, it would be Vlandys and the NRL that would look for the knockout punch.
With McGuire just playing friendly rivalry according to Vlandys, he praised the contribution of the Collingwood president to the AFL industry.
I think the AFL is very, very fortunate to have someone like Eddie McGuire. Hes a personality. He has the sport in the headlines at all times, he said.
I dont think the AFL people appreciate him as much as he should be because hes always prepared to go out on a limb – you dont have to agree or disagree with him but hes certainly good for their sport.
