The New South Wales government insists that it is safe for thousands of cricket fans to attend the New Years Test in Sydney, despite a spike in Covid-19 cases and further restrictions on outdoor eventsthat have led to calls for the match to be played behind closed doors.
Cricket Australia confirmed late on Monday that the third Test match against India starting on 7 January would go ahead at the Sydney Cricket Ground as planned with an expected reduced capacity of 50% around 24,000 spectators.
