COVID alert issued to Queenslanders after seven treatment plants return positive results for virus traces

Testing on seven wastewater treatment plants across Queensland has uncovered traces of coronavirus.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said fragments of the virus were found in the catchments stretching from Cairns North to Oxley Creek.
One of the catchments is as close to Brisbane as Fairfield.
“These surveillance tests are extremely sensitive and can pick up tiny pieces of the genetic material of the virus,” she said.
