A team that finished in the sixth seed last season in the East before being swept by Boston, hired a new head coach in Doc Rivers and made some big changes, but could only just squeeze past the Washington Wizards in their opener.
The Sixers looked familiarly blunt on offence at times, but still battled to a 113-107 win over the Wizards, who almost made the perfect start with Russell Westbrook now at point guard.
