Queensland’s hard border back up after police concern over compliance
After the new hotspot declaration came into effect at 1am on Monday, Queensland police had already turned around 81 vehicles and directed 112 people into quarantine as a result of random border checks by about 10.30am.
Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski labelled the fact that some were trying to enter the state without a permit or with the wrong passes displayed as “disappointing”. He said police could not be confident the random checks were intercepting everyone they needed to.
