The career of one of Australasia’s most popular horses has suddenly finished
The short but stunning racing career of Te Akau Shark is over.
Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis confirmed on Monday morning that the 2019 Cox Plate placegetter had not recovered from a serious eye infection he picked up in Sydney in the autumn.
He said it had been decided the popular six-year-old with the barnstorming finish would not race again.
Te Akau Shark had not started since finishing fifth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April.
