The annual yacht race has been contested every year since 1945 but organisers pulled the pin late on Saturday night, just days from its Boxing Day start, following a COVID outbreak in Sydney.
The Northern Beaches cluster grew to 38 cases on Saturday which saw state governments around the country change their COVID positions.
