Canberra cyclist who lost power during virtual race has one last bid for professional team

“The start of a new life.”

That’s how 25-year-old Canberra man Jay Vine would describe the opportunity to become a fully fledged professional cyclist.

“To start racing against guys I’ve only ever seen on television — it would just be a dream come true,” Jay said.

But just a few weeks ago, that dream looked like it might never be realised.

Unable to travel to compete due to the pandemic, Jay had signed up for a virtual racing competition in the hope of being accepted into a professional European team.
