A 28-year-old man has died following an altercation in Innisfail overnight.
At 2.20am, the man attempted to intervene in a verbal altercation at a taxi rank on Edith St.
The altercation became physical when one of the men involved in the altercation punched him numerous times, causing him to fall to the ground and rendering him unconscious.
A police officer commenced CPR at the scene, but the man was pronounced deceased a short time later.
A crime scene has been declared on Edith Street.
