Waves cut through Bribie Island as south-east Queensland gets battered
“There are no planned remedial actions but [the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service] will undertake a site assessment as soon as it is safe to do so, and implement any actions required to ensure visitor safety,” it said.
The section was closed to vehicles and boaties were advised to stay clear.
The department would continue to monitor and work with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council on erosion management and tidal breakthrough.
The entrance to the Pumicestone Passage used to be 700 metres further south, right about at the point of this breakthrough.

At the breakthrough, Bribie Island used to be 80 metres wide and erosion is a natural part of the coastal area.
