BOM investigating whether tornado tore through Horsham
Some Horsham North residents in Victoria’s west will need to rebuild their homes after a suspected tornado ripped through early this morning.
Strong winds just after 1:00am tore roofs off houses north of Wavell Street, snapped tree trunks and left sheets of metal wrapped around trees.
The State Emergency Service (SES) received 55 calls for help within two minutes.
The weather bureau said specialist investigators would look into the event to see whether it was a tornado or a strong storm cell.
“There is potential that it could just have been a very strong downburst of winds,” Chris Arvier from the Bureau of Meteorology said.
